Oak Benches & Sculptural Pieces from Oak Cubed

I hope you are pleased with your Oak furniture: it is both functional and sculptural and I hope you get great joy from it over the years.

Please read the information below.

Material & Cutting:

The piece is cut from Green English Oak and is entirely untreated. Due to the nature of the wood and the size of the pieces, they are cut with large mechanical saws operated by hand. This will leave some saw marks and handling marks on the pieces even after sanding. These are kept to a minimum but are also an integral part of the natural look of the Oak furniture.

The pieces may also carry some blue / grey stains. These stains are from the reaction between steel benches in the mill and the Oak: they will reduce and disappear as the Oak oxidises and darkens over time.

The Oak will darken over time and also twist and crack: adding great character and beauty to the pieces, as you saw with the Bench at the Urban Show.

Care of the Oak

You do not need to do anything in care of the pieces except if you wish to give them sanding with fine sandpaper twice a year: this acts to give the pieces a smoother and slightly shinier finish: also on a practical level reduces the risk of splinters.

Caution:

The tops of the Benches are not attached to the block legs: they are held firmly in place by the weight of the pieces. Please ensure that the Bench is set up on a level and strong surface as they weigh a great deal.

As the Benches, Tables and Cubes all weigh a great deal please take great care when moving them and please ensure that you have sufficient help to safely achieve the move: also please ensure you wear appropriate safety footwear and gloves.
